It’s a beautiful new space and Catherine is really wonderful. “The Dilemma” is currently in the window. I hope you’ll stop by and check it out.

The gallery’s official opening will be May 1st, a “First Thursday” event. Rumor has it there will be a tequila tasting that evening in the gallery as well. So, if you’re attending First Thursday, I hope you’ll stop by.

Not sure I will keep up the one a day pace, but it’s an easy way to keep a visual diary and has been interesting for me to see what I did all week.

If you’re using Instagram, please connect with me. I’d like to see what you’re up to.

I have quite a few new children’s books coming out this year. People I meet often ask me how that happens, and what I actually do all day. I’m not really sure the answers to those two questions myself, so thought I would set up an Instagram account and record a moment of my day each day, so anyone with an interest can follow along.

I had this notion that I would clean my studio to give this whole project a fresh start. But then, waiting a year or two for that momentous occasion seemed a waste, especially since it would look a mess again the next day, anyway. So…

Here it is on a Sunday, my studio. Eagle eyes will spot my computer to the left, with Wacom tablet. I’ve been asked why I don’t switch to the Cintiq. It is a screen you can draw onto directly, as opposed to a tablet. I have owned a Wacom since they first came out, so have no trouble by now with the disconnect of drawing one place and having it appear elsewhere. And, I like the ergonomics of sitting up very straight and looking forward while I work. Never have artists had that advantage before. No since in rushing the hunchback look, as appealing as it may be.

Also, you see my drawing board. I do most of my drawing by hand, preferring it over digital drawing. All of my color work is done on computer. I really don’t see any instance where hand painting is better anymore, although I know a few of you are hold outs and turning up your noses as you read this. It reminds me of the old mother on Downton Abbey complaining about electricity.

Also in this photo is my little dog, Henri, lounging on his daybed, my constant studio companion.

Behind Henri are my two beloved Taylor guitars. Both guitars were given to me by the Taylor Guitar company; one to use as a model for the guitar I sculpted as part of the John Denver Monument. This guitar is unfinished and without matching keys, really interesting. It was pulled off production to use just for the purpose of reference for me. Some day I will post a picture of it. The other guitar is one I inadvertently designed for Taylor a few years ago, they having keyed off an early conceptual drawing of the John Denver sculpture, to create an official “John Denver Taylor Guitar”. I’ll post pictures of that sometime, too.

So, with a little luck, this project will last more than one day and I will be posting regular Instagram updates on my progress, 8 new titles underway for Fall 2012. See you tomorrow.

In celebration of 2012, I’ve decided to try a new way of selling my sculpture. My friend Joseph, my fine art rep for many years, has decided to close his gallery and move on to new adventures. I am currently working on a large scale installation, and not creating new gallery pieces at the moment. But, I do have quite a bit of inventory that came back from Joseph’s gallery. So, instead of looking for new representation, I’ve decided to offer my inventory here at direct prices, hoping it will mean more can afford to collect, and clearing my studio for new projects.

These prices will be available only until my current inventory is depleted, or I sign on with a new gallery. All prices include shipping anywhere within the continental US. Sales tax will be added for pieces picked up, or shipped to a CA address.

Please contact me if you would like to see more images, to learn current edition numbers available, or to arrange purchase.

I just got back from a three day gathering held by the Children and Nature Network. They’ve done an incredible job these past six or so years, bringing together people around the country that see the importance of getting our children outside and into nature. Many attending dedicate their lives to doing so. It’s a smart and friendly crowd, always a good time, and very enlightening.

I always wonder how I fit into the picture, what I bring that is unique to the gathering and how I can help so many highly capable and dedicated people and groups. I’m never quite sure. But, this year I have decided to offer up the images in my Nature Baybee Guide to anyone that would like to use them for their not for profit pursuits, aimed at getting our kids outside.

You can download a lo res PDF of the guide HERE. If you’d like any of the images in hi res, please let me know and I will upload them directly to you.

These images are yours to use both online and in print for not for profit use only.
When using the images, please include the following:

Please do not alter the images in any way. If you need something additional or would like to alter, please send me a note. Thanks.
